Careers education at Shimna builds on students' experience at primary school. In year 8, Employability forms part of the Learning for Life and Work curriculum, and in year 9 students begin a careers programme designed to broaden their horizons, inspire them and fire their imagination. In year 10, ICT modules offer students opportunities for careers research leading to individual interviews where students choose their GCSE subjects. Careers Week in March sees every department focus on the careers the subject can lead to. In year 12, every student takes part in work shadowing and has an individual interview both with our DEL Careers Officer and our Shimna Careers Advisor. Our 6th form programme includes work experience, university open days, interview skills sessions, UCAS session, individual guidance and visits to careers fairs.
